If someone called you using your child’s voice…
By Foluwa T. Rewane, Founder & Chief Executive Officer, PhishRoot & Author, You’ve Already Been Hacked!
If someone called you using your child’s voice and said they needed money immediately, would you stop to question whether it was really them?
What if the message appeared to come from your bank? Your employer? Someone you trust?
Cybersecurity becomes personal the moment a threat reaches your family, your savings, or the accounts you depend on.
That is why I wrote “You’ve Already Been Hacked! — The Cybersecurity Survival Guide They Never Wanted You to Read.”
And to help more people take practical steps toward protecting themselves, I’m giving away a free digital copy to the first 1,000 people who register at PhishRoot.com.
Why I wrote this book
Throughout my work in cybersecurity and education, one concern has remained central to my thinking: people need security advice they can understand and use.
Knowing that scams exist is one thing. Recognising one when you are distracted, worried, or under pressure is another.
A delivery notification arrives when you are expecting a package. A convincing online store advertises something you have been searching for. An urgent message asks you to help someone you love.
These situations exploit ordinary moments in ordinary lives.
I wrote this guide to help readers recognise those moments, ask better questions, and build habits that make them harder to exploit.
About that title
“You’ve Already Been Hacked!” is a warning about exposure—not a diagnosis that every reader’s accounts have been compromised.
Receiving a phishing email does not prove that someone has accessed your inbox. Having information appear in a data breach does not automatically mean every account you own has been taken over.
But both are reasons to pay attention.
The title challenges the comfortable assumption that cybersecurity is someone else’s problem. You do not have to be wealthy, famous, or running a major company to have something a criminal wants.
Your email can unlock other accounts. Your phone number can help someone impersonate you. Personal details shared online can make a fraudulent message feel familiar and believable.
Your digital life deserves protection.
What you will find inside
This book is written for individuals and families. You do not need to work in technology to benefit from it.
- AI scams, deepfakes, and impersonation
How to question convincing voices, images, and messages—and verify requests before acting. - Protecting children and teens online
How to approach digital safety through awareness, practical protections, and conversations at home. - Fake stores and financial fraud
How to recognise warning signs before trusting a website, sending money, or sharing payment information. - Securing the accounts that unlock your life
Why your email and other essential accounts deserve particular attention, and how stronger access protections help. - Device security and household routines
How everyday habits can support safer use of the phones, computers, and services your family relies on. - Identity theft and recovery
Why small pieces of personal information matter, and what steps to take when something goes wrong.
The guide also includes a clearly labelled outlook for 2027, encouraging readers to prepare thoughtfully as digital threats evolve.
Awareness should lead to action
My goal is for readers to finish this book with a clearer sense of what they can do next.
That might mean strengthening an important account, discussing suspicious messages with a child, or agreeing on a way to verify urgent requests from family members.
Those actions matter.
Nobody can promise complete immunity from cybercrime. Practical protections can still make a meaningful difference, and knowing how to respond can help prevent one mistake from becoming several.
At PhishRoot, I believe understandable security education belongs alongside technical expertise. Helping people recognise risk is part of helping them protect what matters.
